Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy with Anchor Home Health Care, Inc. is designed to assist the patient and family members with restoring communication skills and life sustaining abilities, such as eating and swallowing, in a safe manner. The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), sometimes called Speech Therapist, will collaborate with nurses, physicians, and family members to create plan of care with goals and objectives aimed to increase independence and improve your quality of life.

Our services in the home typically include:

  • Evaluate current abilities for swallowing, communication skills and cognitive skills
  • Create a plan of care for communication, cognitive-linguistic, and/or swallowing problems
  • Improve communication skills to positively impact safety and quality of life
  • Enhance attention, memory, reasoning, safety awareness, coping strategies and problem solving
  • Home exercise programs for daily practice with learned skills

Signs that Speech Therapy is needed in a home setting:

  • Following a diagnosis/ onset of a neurological disease: Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Aphasia
  • After a CVA or Stroke, surgery, or trauma where swallowing or communication is affected
  • If a person has difficulty in managing personal, medical, or financial matters
  • New onset of choking/ coughing when eating or drinking
  • Difficulty expressing themselves verbally
  • Difficulty communicating due to age-related hearing loss
